Expedition Yachts
Created for reliable travel
Expedition class or explorer is a super-reliable yacht, capable of making transitions even in extreme conditions, combining the luxury of superyachts, the reliability of the ocean class and a large cruising range. When buying an expedition class yacht, you should make sure that the yacht meets all the necessary requirements.
Expedition Motor Yachts
Six points you need to know
If you want an expedition class yacht, make sure the yacht has been properly designed. Your safety under possible extreme weather conditions should be a priority when creating a project. The yacht design must be calculated by competent marine engineers, tested and approved by the European classification society. For example, yachts designed by our design bureau are approved and certified by Italian RINA. Compliance with the length and width of the vessel, the displacement, properly designed watertight bulkheads, seaworthiness, stability and many other parameters must be taken into account and calculated by a specialist so that the project really corresponds to category A - the navigation area is unlimited.
Hull material
Steel is most often used as the hull material for an expedition boat. This material shows extremely high strength characteristics. Not for nothing expeditionary yachts assign the so-called "ice class", indicating the reference reliability and safety of the vessel. The steel displacement hull for an ice-class expedition motor yacht is that, as they say, "must have", if one of your priorities is safety and reliability. Also not uncommon when creating a case is the use of aluminum alloys. Adherents of aluminum talk about the advantages of this material, such as reducing weight, increasing seaworthiness, reducing fuel consumption. In our experience - the best performance gives a combination of these materials. Reliable steel hull and aluminum superstructure allow you to achieve optimal weight indicators, show excellent seaworthiness and economy. For example, the expeditionary motor yacht BSY 90 with a length of 27.6 meters with a cruising speed of 10 knots showed a consumption of only 60 liters per hour.
Creating a list of equipment with the shipyard specialists, you should understand that reliability, ease of operation and maintenance is the key to your comfortable and safe trip on an expeditionary yacht. When choosing equipment for your yacht, you must trust the specialists of the shipyard and the staff of the classification society.
Comfort and safety
A forwarding class yacht is distinguished from just a big yacht with a good fuel supply by the possibility of its operation in a variety of weather conditions, sometimes even extreme ones. A beautiful designer interior should be combined with yacht practicality. All elements of your interior must be adapted to the possibility of traveling through the stormy sea. All furniture must be secured, all drawers, cabinets, doors and doors must have appropriate stoppers. Literally everything on the expeditionary yacht should be designed and equipped so that even after a storm your ship looks the same as before. You should also pay attention not only to the air-conditioning system on the yacht, but also to the heating system. A heating system must be installed on the yacht, which effectively operates at a good "freezing" temperature.
Fuel reserve and range
This is a very important point. Speaking of the expeditionary yacht, as a displacement vessel on which you are traveling with a comfortable cruise speed, it is worth remembering that the fuel reserves in this mode should be enough for 3,500 nautical miles. If the project allows, more can be done (for example, one of the Black Sea Yachts built by the shipyard, the forwarding yacht BSY 98 was designed with a cruising range of 5,000 nautical miles), but the 3500 is, in our opinion, the necessary standard to which each expedition yacht.
Rescue equipment.
Your safety should come first. Anything can happen at sea, therefore, no matter how reliable and safe your boat is, it must be equipped with life-saving equipment in accordance with special standards. Not only life jackets, but also satellite communication systems, special signal buoys that are activated when water gets inside, a self-opening life raft and much more.
Reliability, safety, comfort - these three qualities should be combined by a real expedition yacht. And then your travels will be full of new experiences and a wonderful holiday.
Expedition sailing yachts
When choosing a sailing yacht of an expedition class, one should be guided by the same criteria as when choosing a motor yacht (see above): design, hull material, equipment, comfort, safety. On sailing yachts such a huge amount of fuel is not so important - the volume of fuel tanks to go 1000 nautical miles under the engine will be quite enough for you. But it is worth noting that on a sailing yacht of the expedition class you need to have an extra set of storm sails designed to work in extreme conditions.
